ASTANA – The state’s capital is going to celebrate Astana Day on July 4-6 with several days of festivals, competitions and concerts by world renowned and national stars. The event is held annually to celebrate Astana as Kazakhstan’s capital.

All the events are meant to promote Kazakh culture and ethnic features and emphasise the spirit of the city. The celebrations are being devised to show Astana not only as a comfortable and stable city for business, but as a spiritual and cultural centre in Central Asia and beyond. The city administration has worked to beautify the city ahead of the celebrations, which are focused on large-scale and affordable events intended to be within the reach of all residents and visitors.

Astana officially became the capital of Kazakhstan in December 1997. Its formal presentation to the world took place in the summer of 1998. Since 1998, Astana has grown from a town of 280,000 people to a major city of 860,000. It is expected that 1.2 million people will live in the capital by 2020.
