Voting Begins Across Kazakhstan As Nation Elects President

ASTANA – Polling stations opened across the eastern part of Kazakhstan at 07.00 am Astana time, and one hour later they opened in the country’s another time zone in its western part.

The voting will take place from 07.00 am to 08.00 pm local time.

Kazakhstan has more than 9.5 million citizens eligible to vote at one of 9,741 polling stations established for the election. This includes 65 polling stations in the country’s diplomatic posts around the world, where up to 20,000 expatriate Kazakhs are expected to vote as well and where voting will take place from 07.00 am to 08.00 pm local time.

Three candidates are standing in the election including self-nominated Ablegazy Kussainov, Turgun Syzdykov of the Communist People’s Party of Kazakhstan and the incumbent President, Nursultan Nazarbayev.
